A-level English Literature A (7712) changes to specification
Published: Friday 13 Sep 2019
We’ve made a few changes to the non-exam assessment (NEA) section of our A-level English Literature A (7712) specification.
NEA prohibited text list
We’ve added a list of ‘NEA prohibited texts’ to ease the administrative process of checking texts against the exam lists. This is a reproduction of the exam set text lists structured alphabetically by author, rather than component. It doesn’t contain any new information or additional texts.
Set texts listed for the A-level exam components cannot be used for NEA, even if they will not be used in the exam. Schools/colleges are responsible for this administrative check and for ensuring the texts meet the rubrics listed in the specification.
The updated specification can be found on our qualifications pages.
The Yellow Wallpaper
We’ve removed reference to The Yellow Wallpaper from the NEA recommended texts following the guidance provided in the Reports on the Exam. Students are welcome to continue studying the Charlotte Perkins Gilman short story collection titled The Yellow Wallpaper, selecting at least two stories from the collection to write about in detail.
Reports on the exam can be found in the secure key materials area of our secure extranet, e-AQA.
