GCE National Awards Ceremony 2007

The awards recognize outstanding performance in A-level examinations and the winners come from over a third of a million AQA entries. The awards are made each year in several subject categories, each category consisting of a number of broadly related subjects. The winners are chosen on a purely statistical basis following an analysis of all the results in each category.

Guests at the event were once again addressed by very distinguished speakers: Ms Julia Cleverdon CVO CBE, Chief Executive of Business in the Community; John Hayes, Shadow Minister for Lifelong Learning, Further and Higher Education and Dr Mike Cresswell, Director General AQA.

This year we were particularly pleased to welcome the Rt Hon Tessa Jowell MP, Minister for the Olympics and London, and Simon Hughes MP, Shadow Leader of the House of Commons and President of the Liberal Democrat Party: Tessa attended to congratulate the Student of the Year Katie Carpenter, as James Allen's Girls School is in her constituency and Simon attended in order to congratulate his award-winning constituent Edwin Magombe.

The event took place on Monday 19 November at One Great George Street. The awards were co-sponsored by AQA and a number of important companies with an interest in the field of education: DRS, Stephen Austin and Sons Limited, Nelson Thornes, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Research Machines and Exampro.
