About us

The Assessment and Qualifications Alliance (AQA) is the largest of the three English exam boards, awarding 49% of full course GCSEs and 42% of A-levels nationally. In total, students take over 3.5 million exams with us each year.

AQA has a leading reputation for promoting education for the public benefit and draws on long experience of setting and marking public exams such as GCSEs, A-levels and other qualifications. We also offer first class support for teachers and learners. We are at the forefront of development of new qualifications, such as the forthcoming Diplomas.

We are an independent registered charity, with no shareholders, so all our income is used to run our examinations and carry out research and development to improve our qualifications and services.

We strive to be the provider of choice by offering 14–19 qualifications which:

  • have high educational value
  • are valid, reliable and fair
  • set appropriate standards which carry credibility
  • deliver timely, accurate results
  • are affordable and manageable for schools and colleges
  • support current and future national policy
  • meet the future needs of learners and their teachers, schools and colleges.
