New GCE AQA Economics – launch video

Transcript

Economics affects the lives of everyone and our new GCE Economics specification is engaging and interesting for teachers and students. Students look at contemporary issues such as why are house prices so high and how are we affected by the Chinese economy.

What's the new specification like?

The new specification gives students a rigorous understanding of micro and macroeconomics in a real world context. It also develops skills that will equip students for higher education and working life.

At AS students will look at economic issues such as should governments provide free healthcare, and the effects of increases in interest rates.

At A2 students will consider economic concepts and theories in greater depth and will use and evaluate more complex economic models. They'll explore issues in a European Union or global context, tackling questions such as does immigration from eastern Europe keep UK wage inflation low and should governments intervene to reduce the cost of using mobile phones abroad.

What will the exams be like?

Much of the assessment style will be familiar: objective test and data response questions at AS and data response and essay questions at A2. Our questions are always designed to enable students to best demonstrate their achievements and we ensure they have time to show what they've learned without rushing. Pick up a leaflet or look on our website for more detailed information.

When can students take the exams?

You have flexibility to enter students for particular units in January and June. Both AS units will be available from January 2009 and both A2 units from January 2010.
