AQA Information and Communication Technology – a new A-Level specification.
Our new ICT specification has been designed to meet the needs of both teachers and students, as well the professional demands of industry. It also has much to offer the student who wants a basic grounding in ICT, as well as ‘hands-on’ practical experience of computers.
What's the new specification like?
At AS the two units are complementary and aim to develop students' ability to use ICT to solve problems, together with an understanding of the opportunities and impact of ICT in modern life. Students will be able to use a wide range of software and hardware to create solutions and develop their skills.
At A2 students study the concepts associated with the use of ICT in the real world, as well as making practical use of this knowledge. They'll have the opportunity to work alongside people from organisations outside their school or college - in real, or realistic, environments - and to work on projects that interest them, developing valuable life skills of project management and working co-operatively with others.
What will the exams be like?
The exams contain a range of questions –short answers at AS, progressing to structured answers and essay-style questions at A2. Students will gradually develop their extended writing skills, so equipping them for further study, or employment.
When can students take the exams?
You have the flexibility to enter students for particular units in January and June. Both AS units will be available from January 2009, and both A2 units from January 2010.
