AQA Psychology A – a new A-level specification
Our new Psychology A specification reflects many contemporary issues and provides an informed way of looking at the challenges facing us in 21st Century life. Students tackle topics such as relationships, eating behaviours and aggression, and we've contextualised some of the more demanding aspects – research methods, issues, debates and approaches.
Importantly QCA has agreed with us and classified psychology as a science, and our exciting new specification reflects that change. By studying both psychological research and scientific methodology students gain a broad skill set that prepares them for higher education or a wide range of potential careers.
What's the new specification like?
The specification is designed to be interesting and engaging to both you and your students. It's a contemporary, flexible and accessible course that provides teachers with options to best match their students' interests.
At AS level candidates will develop a broad knowledge and understanding of key aspects of the core areas of psychology - social, cognitive, developmental, biological and individual differences.
At A2 the specification offers a range of topics chosen for their relevance, accessibility and popularity. These options bring together explanations from different psychological approaches and students address issues and debates in contemporary psychology. New topics include addictive behaviour and anomalistic psychology.
What will the exams be like?
Our questions are always designed to enable students to best demonstrate their knowledge and we ensure they have time to show what they've learned without rushing. Pick up a leaflet or look on our website for more detailed information show exam breakdown table from leaflet.
When can students take the exams?
You have flexibility to enter students for January and June examinations. Both AS units will be available from January 2009 and both A2 units from January 2010.
