AQA and NCC extend their collaboration for schools

AQA and the National Computing Centre (NCC) have further enhanced their Information Portal for ICT teaching and learning. The web-based information portal for schools and colleges provides teachers, students and education business managers with access to relevant information, enabling a better understanding of how technology and business meet.

During 2006/7 the portal has developed to provide relevant, authoritative content from the NCC mapped onto the units of AQA's specification for GCE Applied ICT.

The portal features:

  • Authoritative, independent, impartial business and IT content – updated on a monthly basis
  • Content mapped onto the Applied ICT curriculum
  • A unique ICT/Business advice centre
  • A single integrated resource
  • Case studies from the UK's leading organisations
  • Details of the latest research
  • Daily summaries of the latest ICT/Business news
  • An online book store

Over the coming year, AQA and NCC are taking the development on another stage to include:

  • NCC content mapped to the new (4-unit) GCE in ICT and to the new ICT Diploma at Level 3
  • Additional content mapped as part of ongoing site/content development
  • Daily newsfeeds
  • Lesson plans and lesson planning hints & tips
  • A monthly news bulletin
  • Podcasts – demonstrating the value of IT in business
  • Case study presentation videos

Both students and teachers will be able to explore and understand the real impact of technology applied in the business context and will gain a deeper appreciation of ICT roles and available career paths.
