This document has been developed as a teaching and learning aid in response to requests from teachers for more guidance on possible approaches to PLY6, Synoptic Study.
Teachers' Guides
A Teacher's Guide is available in this subject. A copy has been sent all registered AQA examination centres. Further printed copies can be purchased from AQA Publications Department. These Guides are not available on-line.
The Guide contains:
- A look at the links between this specification and the AQA(AEB) Advanced Level syllabus from which it has been developed
- A review of the specification at a glance
- Curriculum models and an exploration of how synoptic assessment has been addressed in unit 6
- A section on assessment issues looking in detail at the standard of assessment at AS and illustrating how candidates can be best advised to address questions on the AS units. The section also deals with the nature of progression from AS to A2 and how to prepare candidates for the synoptic study, both in terms of timing and choice of topics and titles
- A section on course delivery offering advice on course organisation and choosing texts and themes
- Schemes of work and an in-depth look at AS and A2
- Suggestions for teaching exercises that can be used in the classroom
- A resource list that covers general textbooks and text books for each module, and other resources such as useful websites
- A glossary of terms which outlines key words in questions and abbreviations
- A section on how the specification can be used to deliver the main key skills
