AQA Portfolio Guides

AQA has published portfolio guides for three key skills at level 2. The portfolio guides are based on The key skills qualifications standards and guidance (QCA 04/1272) for the key skills of:

They provide practical guidance on interpreting the standards in order to produce high quality portfolios. Examples are given to demonstrate the variety of ways that Key Skills evidence may be produced and in each Guide there are moderator's tips to help assessors understand the key skills.

The Guides cover Level 2 only and there are no plans at the present time to produce further guides. Should you require advice on the completion of Portfolios at Levels 1and 3 then the Portfolio Adviser – individually allocated to each centre- should be contacted. Please email keyskills@aqa.org.uk if you require your Portfolio Adviser's contact details.

QCA Example Portfolios

QCA example portfolios Application of Number, Communication, and Information and Communication Technology and QCA Example combined portfolios

These were originally developed for KS2000. However, QCA have produced revised commentaries so that they may be used with the standards for KS2004. The QCA example portfolios are for use by Key Skills' practitioners in your centre.

The QCA example portfolios and example combined portfolios have been produced as a result of a collaborative process between QCA, ACCAC, CCEA and the awarding bodies. The Key Skills' Senior Moderators have agreed that the portfolios, while not perfect, meet the standard required and would achieve a pass. However, AQA will continue to promote good practice in all skills and levels in order to ensure that the value of the Key Skills qualification to candidates, employers and HE institutions is maintained.

Also included in the portfolios are example assessor record sheets, which make the feedback and assessment decisions clear, and commentaries, which outline some of the issues and contextualise the evidence. Centres may develop their own record sheets based on these assessment records or use the witness statements available on the AQA website. All centres should continue to use the logbooks available.

Work is currently underway by QCA to publish a set of example portfolios for the Wider Key Skills at levels 1 – 3.

Example portfolios should be read with reference to The key skills qualifications standards and guidance (QCA/04/1272).

The portfolios clarify the standard required for a pass and, as such, AQA welcomes their publication. All AQA Portfolio Advisers have been trained using the portfolios and should you have any questions about them, please contact your Portfolio Adviser in the first instance.

Record forms for coursework and portfolio units are now available.
