Students' guide to results day
Receiving your results
When do the results come out?
- A-level results (GCE/AEA/FSMQ/Key and Basic Skills/Level 3 Extended Project/AQA Baccalaureate Enrichment element)
Thursday 14 August 2008
- GCSE results (GCSE/ELC/FCSE/Functional Skills/VRQ/L1 + L2 certificates/Level 1 and Level 2 Project/AQA Baccalaureate Awards)
Thursday 21 August 2008
How do I get my results?
Your school or college should tell you exactly where and when to go on results day to collect your results.
If you aren't going to your school or college to get your results yourself, you must supply an envelope to your centre for the results to be sent to you by post.
We are not able to provide the results to you directly: they are always sent to the school or college that entered you for the exams.
What documents do I get?
You will receive a Candidate Statement of Provisional Results. This is a statement about your results. It is not a certificate: they are sent to your school or college early in the autumn term.
- GCE/AEA/FSMQ/Key Skills/Level 3 Extended Project/AQA Baccalaureate/Functional Skills/VRQ For these exams you get an A4 results slip showing the overall subject award, UMS score (where appropriate) and any related units which have gone to make up the award. For GCE the slip will show the unit grade as well as the UMS score.
- GCSE/ELC/Level 1 and Level 2 Certificate and Basic Skills For these exams you get an A5 results slip which shows the subject award for each subject you have taken.
- If for some reason you have not achieved a result in a unit or subject, it will show as ‘No result’. Very occasionally the result slip may say ‘Pending’ against a subject. In either of these cases, you should talk to the Exams Officer in your school or college who will be able to explain why this has occurred.
Dealing with problems
If you have any problems with your results, talk to the Exams Officer or the tutors at your school or college.
If you have applied to go to university in the UK, the information about your results in this summer's exams is automatically forwarded to UCAS for all subjects where you have claimed an overall subject award.
If you have not ‘cashed in’ either AS or A-level qualifications, UCAS will not have any grades to forward to the university or course of your choice. You will need to check with your Exams Officer whether you were entered for a subject award. It is possible to make a late entry for an award up to 20 September 2008. You will have to do this through your school or college and will need to talk to the Exams Officer about making that entry for you.
If you have not met the minimum requirements to take up your confirmed place at university or college:
- Talk to the tutors/teachers at your school or college about what your options are.
- Consult your tutor/teachers or the Exams Officers at your school or college who will have information about the marks you obtained for each paper or unit you have taken. You might want to consider making an Enquiry about Results if you are in any doubt about whether this information is correct. Remember that there are charges for these services and that you must make the enquiry through your school or college. The awarding bodies do not accept enquiries directly from students or parents.
- If there are any changes to your results after publication day, AQA will notify UCAS of those changes. It can take up to two days from processing the new marks(s) or grade(s) for this information to be printed or included in a file to UCAS, but the information will be passed on as soon as possible.
- If you decide that you want to re-sit some or all of the units/subjects, you must talk to your tutors/teachers about what and when you would re-sit. You will also need to make sure that the Exams Officer is aware of any units or papers you intend to re-sit so that the school or college can make the entries at the right time. You should also confirm with the Exams Officer whether you need to decline a subject award in order to re-sit the units at GCE.
If you have done better than you expected, consult your school or college about what options might now be open to you.
If you want to see the marked exam script for any of your written papers or units, you can request the Access to Scripts service for the appropriate paper. You must make the request through your school or college and there are charges for the services, which your centre may expect you to pay.
