Specification at a glance
Students who want to pursue a career in the creative and cultural industries can start on the path by developing their creative writing skills. They will also learn to develop critical and analytical skills and gain knowledge of the craft of writing.
This specification is designed to encourage students to:
- understand different types of writing
- express themselves and their ideas
- develop redrafting and editing skills
- develop critical and analytical skills.
This specification is for AS-level exams from June 2014 onwards and A-level exams from June 2015.
Unit 1 - Writing on Demand
Students will answer two questions from a choice of four. Both will involve the production of texts based on practical writing scenarios.
Unit 2 - Exploring creative writing 60% of AS, 30% of A-level
Students will submit two creative pieces of work (max 3000 words) and a reflective commentary (max 1500 words).
Unit 3 - From Reading to Writing 20% of A-level
Students will answer two questions based on their selection of one stimulus text from a choice of five.
Unit 4 - The Writing Portfolio 30% of A-level
Students will produce a portfolio of creative work (max 4000 words or equivalent) and a full reflective commentary (max 2000 words), with bibliography and evidence of redrafting.
