Expressive Arts (4260)

We are not planning to develop a new GCSE Expressive Arts qualification under government changes to GCSEs.

The last exams for students taking the current qualification will be in the June 2017 series and there will be no further re-sit opportunity.

As an alternative, you may like to consider our new GCSEs in Art and Design, Dance, Drama and Music which we are planning to develop for first teaching in September 2016.

We are also developing a Technical Award in this subject (equivalent to a single GCSE) for first teaching in 2017. Sign up for updates, or find out more about changes to GCSEs and which qualifications we are planning to offer in the future.

You can also contact the customer support team on the details shown below.

GCSE Expressive Arts helps students develop an understanding of conventions and traditions that exist within and across art forms, within and across societies and cultures and evolve through periods of time. This understanding will be applied where appropriate in developing and presenting their own practical work.

This two unit specification requires students to develop their ability to acquire the skills and techniques necessary to engage in the arts, carry out relevant research and investigation and explore, develop, shape, review, modify and refine ideas to realise creative intentions.

The emphasis of the course is on practical work with practical presentations counting for 40 per cent. The students' working processes are also assessed. This course is particularly suitable for students who wish to study a number of different art forms, and provides a sound grounding for further study of the arts at A-level.
