We have carefully considered the future of our Level 1/2 Certificates (IGCSEs) in the light of government changes to GCSEs and have decided not to develop new L1/2 Certificates in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Science: Double Award.

The last exams for students taking the current qualifications will be in the June 2017 series and there will be no final re-sit opportunities.

As alternatives, you may like to consider our new GCSEs in these subjects, which we are planning to develop for first teaching in September 2016 and which will be equal to the best qualifications available internationally.

Find out more about these changes and which qualifications we are planning to offer in the future. You can also read the 20 January 2015 update about AQA Level 1/2 Certificates in performance measure tables.

Our AQA Level 1/2 Certificates (IGCSEs) in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Double Award Science are fully accredited on the Ofqual Register of Regulated Qualifications at the same standard as GCSEs.

The current qualifications:

The specifications contain no controlled assessment – experimental and investigative skills are integrated into the written papers. These specifications have been designed as linear examinations that allow time for teaching key concepts at a deeper level.
