Chief Examiner and Lead Assessment Writer - OxfordAQA International A-level Psychology

We currently have the following vacancies available within our International A-level Psychology specification.

Being a Senior Examiner can enhance your professional development and build upon your education experience. These roles can be undertaken alongside full time teaching commitments although we expect that the successful candidates will be willing and able to attend meetings in either, Guildford, London and/or Manchester.

For this specification the following roles can be held by two separate individuals or as a dual role held by one person.

Chief Examiner

The Chief Examiner is responsible for overseeing the setting of good quality question papers that offer fair and robust assessment and support reliable marking.

Key deliverables

Some of the key deliverables of the role are:

  • responsibility for overseeing the setting of quality question papers
  • ensuring quality of marking and overall standards across the specification
  • attending meetings to support the delivery of the specification

What we are looking for

We’re looking for a subject expert with a sound understanding of good assessment practices. It would be advantageous to have recent secondary teaching experience of the subject. Previous experience in a senior examiner role and any knowledge of the assessment design process would be advantageous.

Applicants will need to be comfortable working and delivering to tight deadlines. As such, you will need to demonstrate strong organisational skills and the ability to multi-task. You will also have good leadership skills and an ability to support and develop a team. You will need to be IT literate, as much of the role will involve the use of online and e-technologies, and you should also be open to the use of new technologies and systems.

Lead Assessment Writer

We’re looking for a Lead Assessment Writer to create high quality assessment materials for our specification. Lead Assessment Writers are responsible for creating question papers and mark schemes which reflect the requirements set out in a brief.

Key deliverables

Some of the key deliverables of the role are:

  • setting quality exam papers that offer valid, fair, reliable and robust assessment and adhere to the specification and regulatory requirements
  • the development of clear and accurate mark schemes which support reliable marking.

What we are looking for

We’re looking for candidates with excellent knowledge of the subject. A degree in Psychology or related field is desirable.  The role requires that you have knowledge of writing questions. Experience of writing papers would be advantageous. Your question writing experience can be within a school setting or other education based environment.

Applicants for this role should be as equally confident working independently as they are working in a team. Your ability to write to a brief should be matched by your openness to receiving constructive feedback from colleagues in the team and incorporating that feedback appropriately to make amendments to questions.
