Science Practical Advisers (Monitoring and Advice Services)

We have a career enhancing opportunity for A-level Science teachers looking to extend and develop their practical science teaching skills.

We are working in partnership with other awarding organisations to observe and review practical science work, and we are looking for A-level Science teachers to work with us. As a Science Practical Adviser, you will visit ten schools over a two-week period to review and produce a report on how practical work is assessed. For each monitoring visit and report, you will receive a fee of £80 plus expenses.

This opportunity will suit teachers who enjoy practical science teaching and assessment and are comfortable with report writing. You will need the support of your head teacher to ensure you are able to take the time out from school to perform this work, and we will provide teacher release vouchers to cover your absence. We believe this provides a fantastic opportunity to encourage, share and build expertise in practical science teaching and assessment.

What we're looking for

We are looking for qualified teachers who are currently teaching A-level science specifications from any of the exam boards and have a minimum of five years of practical work assessment experience. We are also happy to consider recently retired teachers who have taught at this level and have knowledge of the current science specifications.

You will have passion for your subject, possess great interpersonal and organisational skills and have the ability to write constructive and informative reports. You will enjoy the practical side of teaching science and will ideally be looking to further build upon your current expertise through additional work in the science field.

We are holding a candidate briefing and assessment day in early October 2022 (date TBC if application is successful). Please note that you will need to be available on the date once arranged.

Monitoring will take place through the academic autumn and spring terms, so you will need to be fully available during this period. Monitoring visits will take place over two separate continuous weeks or a two-week block period. We will try and accommodate preferred weeks, although please note that this is not always possible.
