AS and A-level Economics: changes to specification and scheme of work

Published: Thursday 18 Nov 2021

We’ve updated the following AS and A-level Economics materials now that the UK has left the European Union.

  • AS and A-level Economics specification (7135, 7136)
  • Scheme of work: Year 2 A-level for A-level Economics

In the specification we’ve added a note to identify sections that you do not need to teach because the content is now out of date. The affected sections are:

  • Section 3.2: They should also be aware that the performance of the United Kingdom economy is influenced by its membership of the European Union (EU) and by external events in the international economy.
  • Section 4.2.6.2: The consequences for the UK of its membership of the European Union (EU).
  • Section 4.2.6.2 Additional information: Students should be able to discuss the arguments for and against the UK’s membership of the EU.

We’ll remove this out of date content from September 2022.

We’ll keep the content in sections 4.1.8.7, 4.2, and 4.1 which is related to the EU because it’s still relevant to the UK economy and international trade.

In the scheme of work we’ve removed content from section 4.2.6.2 which relates directly to the specification content that is now out of date.

The updated specification can be found on our qualifications pages. The updated scheme of work is available in teaching resources.
