AS History: changes to available components from summer 2021

Published: Friday 10 Jul 2020

From summer 2021 we’ll no longer be offering some of our AS History (7041) component options.

The final assessment for the following AS History options will be in summer 2021 with no re-sit opportunity. They will no longer be co-teachable with the corresponding A-level components.

  • 7041/1B Spain in the Age of Discovery
  • 7041/1E Russia in the Age of Absolutism and Enlightenment
  • 7041/2C The Reformation in Europe
  • 7041/2F The Sun King: Louis XIV, France and Europe
  • 7041/2H France in Revolution
  • 7041/2K International Relations and Global Conflict
  • 7041/2T The Crisis of Communism: The USSR and the Soviet Empire

As an education charity, we have to make decisions about how we most effectively use our resources. Sadly, these options have low and declining entries, and we can’t justify continuing to invest in them when they clearly no longer meet the needs of most teachers and students.

We’ll continue to offer all of our other A-level History options at this point in time, our research shows that all of our other AS options are still meeting the needs of many teachers and students, so they aren’t affected by this decision.

Details of the final exam and certification dates can be found on our qualifications pages.

The updated specification and co-teaching guide are available.

The schemes of work found in teaching resources have also been updated to reflect these changes.
