GCSE Science: Virtual Communities - Spring 2021 - London
Facilitated by AQA Science specialists, these free 'local' virtual twilight sessions are currently replacing the previous Science hub network events.
Participants will be able to use text and audio chat facilities in an online environment to discuss relevant topics.
We will also share any relevant updates and resource developments from AQA and our AQA family.
We suggest you to book onto your 'local' community session where possible.
Places are limited to one per school/college per series.
Please note, we won't be covering the changes to exams in 2021 in detail as part of these Virtual Communities events, but to keep up to date on the latest news, please visit https://www.aqa.org.uk/news/summer-2021-arrangements.

The focus of this term's meeting is on understanding of some of the key command words in the GCSE science assessments. In the meeting we will cover the following topics.
- Key command words: What's the difference between a description and an explanation? A comparison and an evaluation? These are key exam command words that students often struggle with. In this session we discuss ways that you can increase student understanding of what they need to do to answer these questions effectively.
- The learning gap: Regional lockdowns, isolations and absences have created real difficulties in covering the curriculum, covering practical work and keeping students engaged. We share ideas from partner organisations to help support your teaching.
- Summer 2021 exams: We share the latest information on the arrangements for exams and awarding this summer.
- Resources from AQA: There are many resources on the AQA website to support your teaching and your students' understanding of the assessments.
