Food preparation: Making a beef burger (unit 33)

In successfully completing this unit, the learner will haveEvidence needed

1. identify the equipment needed to make a beef burger and 'secret' sauce

2. identify, collect and weigh or measure the ingredients needed to make a beef burger and 'secret' sauce

3. tip the onions into a small bowl and pour over boiling water until just covered, then leave it to cool

4. put all of the sauce ingredients into a small bowl, add one tablespoon of the cooled onion water, and mix until combined

5. halve one of the burger buns, and cut a thick slice from the middles of the two other buns

6. toast or grill the middle slices on both sides, and the cut sides of the other buns

7. add the mince to a bowl and season, then mix together

8. divide the mince mixture into two burgers

9. heat a drizzle of oil in a frying pan and cook the burgers

10. use a food probe to check the burgers are 75 degrees in the centre

11. assemble the burgers

12. serve the beef burgers and 'secret' sauce in an appropriate manner

13. evaluate the final product.
