DANC2 – Choreography and performance

DANC3 – Written exam: dance appreciation

DANC4 – Group choreography and solo performance.

AS component 1: Performance and choreography (current DANC2)

AS component 2: Critical engagement (current DANC1)

A-level component 1: Performance and choreography (current DANC4)

A-level component 2: Critical engagement (current DANC3).

Practical assessment

Visiting moderation process at AS and visiting examination at A-level for practical units.

Practical assessment

Visiting examination at AS and A-level for all practical components.

Written papers

AS and A-level written papers currently both 1 hour 30 minutes.

New structure and content of written paper with a mix of question styles (short answer and essay questions) focusing on:

AS

  • areas of study and own practice
  • 2 hours.

A-level

  • two set works within the context of the two corresponding areas of study
  • 2 hours 30 minutes.
Areas of Study (AoS)
  • Areas of Study and Set Works change every 3 years.
  • There is a choice of three areas of study.
  • There is a choice of three set works for teachers to choose from.
Areas of Study (AoS)
  • Areas of study and set works are expected to remain the same through the life time of the specification.
  • One compulsory area of study.
  • Plus one optional area of study (a choice from four) at both AS and A-level.
  • Set works correspond to both the compulsory and optional area of study to be studied at A-level.
Performance and Choreography
  • AS: Solo performance and choreography and performance in duet/trio.
  • A-level: Solo performance in the style of a practitioner/area of study and group choreography.
Performance and Choreography
  • AS: The length of the duet/trio has been reduced to 2 – 3 minutes.
  • A-level: In addition to the solo performance in the style of a practitioner/area of study and group choreography, there is a new group ensemble performance piece which can be in any dance style relevant to the defined genres in the specification.

45%:55% - current weightings of practical to written paper.

Weightings

50%:50% new weightings of practical to written paper to meet Ofqual regulations.
