ELC Step Up to English: new NEA topics for 2024
Published: Thursday 7 Sep 2023
Each year we replace one of the non-exam assessment (NEA) tasks for each component as outlined in section 5.4.1 of the ELC Step Up to English specification.
For the 2024 assessments, we’ve introduced two new topics:
- Component 1 - Pets
- Component 2 - Dystopia
You can find the new topics on Centre Services. Each topic will also have a scheme of work available later in September 2023 in teaching resources.
We’re removing the following NEA topics after 2024:
- Component 1 - Leisure
- Component 2 - Myths and legends
These topics have one year’s shelf life remaining and are valid for submission in January and June 2024 only. These will be removed after the 2024 assessments.
We’ve already removed the following NEA topics:
- Component 1 - The Next Step
- Component 2 - Exploring
These topics expired after the summer 2023 assessments are no longer valid for submission. You can continue to use these as practice/mock assessments for your learners.
