GCSE Religious Studies A: updated scheme of work for ‘The study of religions (Islam)’

Published: Tuesday 19 Jul 2022

As part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring more diverse and contrasting perspectives in our Religious Studies qualifications, we’re delighted to announce that we’ve updated our scheme of work (SOW) for Paper 1 Option 5: ‘The Study of Religions (Islam)’ for GCSE Religious Studies A (8062).

The SOW covers two alternative paths through the curriculum included within the appendix, and provides some extra resource links and more opportunities for exploring wider contexts around some of the topics, which all speaks to Islam as a worldview.

Michael Storer, RS teacher and content developer, said:

“This scheme of work is designed to show the exciting opportunities available to showcase diversity when teaching Islam. The religion of Islam offers such a wealth of historical and theological interest, and my aim for this Scheme of Work is to demonstrate the points of connection available to teachers within the beliefs and practices of the faith. I hope this scheme of work, and its alternate approaches, offer teachers and students an engaging investigation and opportunities for further learning.”

You can find the updated SOW on our Religious Studies qualification pages in teaching resources.

At AQA, equality, diversity and inclusion is important to all subjects and qualifications that we offer, and not least to Religious Studies. You can read more about the work our team has been doing in our blog published in the spring term, and on what equality, diversity and inclusion means for the study of beliefs and worldviews.
