LEADING A GUIDED WALK

Level: Level One

In successfully completing this unit, the learner will haveEvidence needed

demonstrated the ability to

1. select a walk route with consideration for an appropriate subject matter and target audience

2. ensure the walk is appropriate to the interests and abilities of the target audience

3. publicise the guided walk using at least two marketing methods, eg word of mouth, website, radio promotion

4. make contingency plans in case members of the audience or the environment differ from the anticipated guided walk, eg bad weather, unsuitably clothed participants

5. identify and use at least two different methods to supply the audience with information during the walk, eg written material, game

6. collect any necessary information at the beginning of the walk, eg medical details, emergency contact details

7. lead at least two guided walks

8. engage all members of the walking group during the guided walk, taking into consideration different abilities and interests

9. work safely in a practical environment, having previously familiarised themself with the route and written a valid risk assessment
