2. connect and power up, in the correct sequence, five key pieces of DJ-ing equipment, eg mixer, turntable, CD player, amplifier, speakers

3. work with due regard to health and safety, as outlined by the tutor

4. test the equipment for correct levels, ie volume, treble, mid-range and bass

5. select at least two music tracks to practise mixing throughout the course

6. use the headphones to listen to the two tracks at the same time

7. cue a track

8. slip cue a track

9. fade a track using at least three different techniques, eg beat mix curve, scratch curve, dipped curve

10. count beats, bars and phrases

11. blend two tracks with the cross-fader

12. blend two tracks with the up-fader

13. maintain the correct fader and gain levels to prevent distortion

14. identify when a beat match has worked successfully

15. identify when a beat match has not worked successfully

16. perform a running cut

17. perform a throw-in cut

18. stop a track using at least three different techniques, eg power off, wind off, break

19. perform a spin back

20. cut with a spin back

21. blend with a spin back

22. match the rhythms of two tracks

23. scratch a track using at least three different techniques, eg baby scratch, tear scratch, backward scratch

24. apply the skills and techniques learned throughout the course to record own mix
