Command words

Command words are the words and phrases used in exams and other assessment tasks that tell students how they should answer the question.

AS

Assess (AO2)

Consider several options or arguments and weigh them up so as to come to a conclusion about their effectiveness or validity. Answers should support different points of view relevant to the issue, with reasoned and evidenced chains of reasoning; critically analyse those arguments and make an evaluation of the view presented based on their reasoning.

Explain (AO1)

The emphasis here is on demonstrating understanding. Students should select and present key ideas and develop them through the use of relevant evidence, including text/scripture where appropriate.
