AQA and Oxford University Press have joined forces to deliver globally relevant qualifications that reflect the latest in the UK’s standard. This venture offers international GCSEs, AS and A-levels to meet the needs of British curriculum schools internationally.

We’re looking for a Lead Assessment Writer for the OxfordAQA International GCSE Computer Science specification.

This is a great opportunity for education professionals with expert knowledge of the subject. The role can be undertaken alongside full time teaching commitments and is worked on a contractual basis. You will be paid a fee for any work completed and for any meetings that you attend. The majority of meetings will be held virtually via Microsoft Teams.

Lead Assessment Writer - Lead Assessment Writers are responsible for creating question papers and mark schemes which reflect the requirements set out in a brief.

Key deliverables

Some of the key responsibilities of the role are:

  • setting quality exam papers that offer valid, fair, reliable and robust assessment and adhere to the specification and regulatory requirements
  • the development of clear and accurate mark schemes which support reliable marking.

What we are looking for

  1. experienced teachers with excellent knowledge of Computer Science
  2. programming qualifications are desirable
  3. proficient in Python, Visual Basic and C#
  4. a degree in this subject or related field is desirable
  5. experience of marking for an exam board is desirable
  6. knowledge of writing questions. Experience of writing papers (within a school setting or other education-based environment) would be advantageous
  7. applicants for this role should be as equally confident working independently as you are working in a team
  8. ability to write to a brief
  9. an openness to receiving constructive feedback from colleagues in the team and incorporating that feedback appropriately to make amendments to questions
  10. be highly organised with strong organisation and leadership skills
  11. consistent in meeting deadlines and delivering work to a strict schedule
  12. be able to evidence excellent attention to detail.

Note: this appointment will be shared with another LAW (Lead Assessment Writer) currently in position on the specification. You will share LAW responsibilities, alternating per series (November and Summer). You will lead on one series per year, producing the skeleton program and assessment materials in one of the three programming languages available. In the alternating series you will support the other LAW in producing materials, providing translations of the skeleton program and associated assessment materials into the other two programming languages at key production stages. The roles will then function vice versa for the other series in the year.

We currently have a dual role vacancy for a Lead Assessment Writer and Lead Examiner vacancy with our A-level Religious Studies 7061/E & 7062/E (Judaism) specification.

In their role as Lead Assessment Writer (LAW) the post holder will create high quality assessment materials for the specification. Lead Assessment Writers are responsible for creating question papers and mark schemes which reflect the requirements set out in a brief.

As Lead Examiner (LEx),the post holderwill have sole responsibility for marking the papers for the specification ensuring accurate marking and meeting tight deadlines.

This is a great opportunity for an education professional with expert knowledge of the subject. The roles can be undertaken alongside full time teaching commitments and is worked on a contractual basis. The LAW role requires attendance at Planning and Review meetings totalling 5 days per year, with Teacher Release Vouchers (TRVs) provided to centres where meetings fall on term-time weekdays – these dates are agreed at least 2 months in advance. Similarly, the LEx role will require attendance at meetings, all of which will be held remotely via Microsoft Teams.

You will be paid a fee for any work completed and for any meetings that you attend. The majority of meetings will be held virtually via Microsoft Teams. As LAW the setting fee is £583.49. Meeting fees are £245.00 per day.

Some of the key responsibilities of the role include:

  1. taking any actions required to ensure that all marking is completed by the specified deadlines
  2. reviewing evidence at the Awarding Committee and providing professional judgement based on this evidence to determine the grade boundaries
  3. undertaking post-results review of marking and supporting AQA with further post-results work as required.

What we are looking for

  1. experienced teachers with excellent knowledge of Religious Studies (Judaism)
  2. a degree in this subject or related field is desirable
  3. experience of marking for a recognised UK exam board (advantageous)
  4. thorough knowledge and understanding of mark schemes and of the standardisation process would be advantageous
  5. knowledge and experience of writing Religious Studies papers within a school setting or other education-based environment (advantageous)
  6. ability to write to a brief, adhering to the specification references required
  7. an openness to receiving constructive feedback from colleagues in the team and incorporating that feedback appropriately to make amendments to questions
  8. an effective communicator with both written and oral communication skills
  9. applicants for this role should be as equally confident working independently as you are working in a team
  10. be highly organised with strong organisation and leadership skills
  11. consistent in meeting deadlines and delivering work to a strict schedule
  12. be able to evidence excellent attention to detail
  13. good IT skills, as much of the associated work is computer based, with an increasing use of online applications/e-technologies.

Our exams and non-exam assessments (NEA) are marked by 30,000 examiners and moderators. Progress and quality is monitored by groups of associates, starting with standardisation and regular checking of marking through to awarding – where grade boundaries are set and applied to each student’s mark.
