FIRST AID: BASIC LIFE SUPPORT AND CARDIO PULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR)

In successfully completing this unit, the learner will haveEvidence needed

1. make an assessment of all the relevant dangers to self, casualty or others in the risk area, in a given situation

2. determine if the casualty is breathing by using the 'look, feel and listen' method

3. open a casualty's airway, using the 'head tilt, chin lift' method prior to resuscitation

4. perform adult rescue breaths using the mouth-to-mouth technique on a training mannequin to make the chest rise

5. perform adult rescue CPR on a training mannequin using chest compressions to five centimetres, with a ratio of 30 compressions to two rescue breaths (30:2)

6. place a casualty who is breathing into the recovery position

7. ask for help and make a phone call to an identified emergency service

8. make a risk area safe prior to dealing with a casualty
