COMPARING NON-FICTION TEXTS FROM DIFFERENT PERIODS

In successfully completing this unit, the learner will have	Evidence needed
demonstrated the ability to 1. identify the main differences between a 19th century picture and a 20th or 21st century picture depicting a similar theme	Student completed work
experienced 2. taking part in group reading a 19th century non-fiction text of around 500 words	Summary sheet
demonstrated the ability to 3. work as part of a group to identify and record the significant ideas, themes, characters and events in the text	Summary sheet
experienced 4. listening to a 20th or 21st century non-fiction text of around 500 words, aimed at readers aged 11 to 13 years and on the same theme as the 19th century text	Summary sheet
demonstrated the ability to 5. identify the main similarities and differences between the 20th or 21st century text and the 19th century text, in terms of the significant ideas, themes, characters and events	Student completed work
6. use the Point, Evidence, Explain, Link (PEEL) technique with support to write a comparison of the two texts.	Student completed work
