CASTING A PEWTER ACCESSORY

In successfully completing this unit, the learner will haveEvidence needed

demonstrated the ability to

1. use 2D design to design a personalised pewter accessory

2. follow the main health and safety guidelines to prepare a mould and work area for casting

3. wear the appropriate clothing and personal protective equipment (PPE) when working with molten metal

4. heat and pour the metal into the mould until the sprue is full

5. remove the mould when the cast metal is set and cold

6. remove the sprue by cutting using a junior hacksaw

7. file and sand any burrs or flashing to clean up the cast

8. drill a hole using the pillar drill, safely securing the cast
