1. read fluently, accurately and with expression

2. use at least five strategies to tackle words in a variety of texts, eg phonetic structure, initial and final clusters, long vowel sound, prefixes and suffixes

3. identify the main points in at least three different texts, eg characters, setting, theme, with some explanation

4. locate the key points in at least two texts, eg note differences between two newspaper reports on the same story

5. make at least five inferences based on a single piece of textual detail, eg in a longer text answer questions about a character’s actions or make predictions about feelings
