MAKING SHEPHERD'S PIE

In successfully completing this unit, the learner will haveEvidence needed

demonstrated the ability to

1. identify and collect the necessary ingredients for making shepherd's pie, ie potatoes, salt, pepper, minced beef, carrots, onion, butter, flour, milk, peas

2. identify and collect suitable equipment, ie frying pan, saucepan, peeler, knife, chopping board, wooden spoon, potato masher, oven proof dish

3. peal and cut the potatoes

4. put the potatoes into a saucepan to boil

5. brown the mince in a frying pan

6. peel and cut the onion and carrots and add to the mince mixture

7. make the gravy and add to the mince with the peas

8. mash the potatoes and mix with the milk and butter

9. put the mince mixture into an oven proof dish

10. spoon the mash on top of the mince mixture

11. place the dish in the oven for 40 minutes

12. remove the shepherds pie from the oven when cooked

13. leave the area clean and tidy.
