INTRODUCTION TO THE STUDY OF CULTURE (UNIT 1)

Level: Level One

In successfully completing this unit, the learner will have	Evidence needed
demonstrated the ability to 1. define culture by giving a comprehensive explanation to include reference to customs, norms, values, way of life and food	Student completed work
2. identify at least two elements of culture as per the ‘Iceberg theory of culture’	Student completed work
3. explain the main division between collectivistic and individualistic cultures, with two examples of cultures representing these	Student completed work
4. define the meaning of norms and values and give two examples from at least one foreign and own culture	Student completed work
5. show the importance of values and norms to a culture	Summary sheet
6. identify and explain at least one way in which culture is transmitted from generation to generation	Student completed work
