1. select the correct tools for a given bicycle maintenance task

2. remove the pedal cranks

3. strip and clean the bottom bracket bearings, replacing and lubricating them if required

4. remove and strip the handlebars and stem

5. clean the headset bearings, replacing and lubricating them if required

6. reassemble the headset, ensuring the bearings are correctly adjusted

7. split and re-join the drive chain, checking for tight chain links

8. clean, regrease and adjust the wheel bearings.
