FRENCH PLAITING OR BRAIDING

In successfully completing this unit, the learner will haveEvidence needed

demonstrated the ability to

1. wash and shampoo hair on a manikin or client, and condition the hair

2. prepare a trolley and choose a tail comb, hairbrush, and hair band for plaiting and braiding the hair

3. finger dry the hair

4. take a small triangle of hair at the front of the head and split it into three equal strands

5. cross the left strand over the centre one, so that the left stand is now the new centre strand

6. cross the right strand over the centre strand, keeping the tension equal in each strand so that the finished braid will be even

7. gather extra hair from the left front hairline about half the thickness of one strand and add it to the left strand, crossing this strand over the centre strand

8. repeat the process as above, and add the hair to the right strand and pass the new strand over the centre strand

9. repeat the previous steps until there is no loose hair at the hairline and then plait the rest of the three strands and secure the ends using an appropriate hair band
