The AQA Unlocking Potential Programme 2024/25 is officially underway following its launch at venues across England.
A total of 120 students from across the country came to the events at AQA’s offices in Milton Keynes and Manchester, and also at Reading Town Hall and Museum, for the start of the 2024/25 programme.
AQA Unlocking Potential is a transformational mentoring programme for students from 11–19 years of age, delivered by world class athletes from the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust, that aims to bring out the best in young people so that they can achieve their goals.
Students took part in icebreaker games and group challenges in the morning session, and listened to the athletes share their own stories of overcoming adversity and the personal challenges they faced in achieving their goals. In the afternoon, the students worked in smaller groups and got to know their athlete mentors who they will be working with for the next eight months, and they all received an AQA Unlocking Potential branded hoodie at the end of the day.
The athlete mentors will be visiting the schools to work with their groups over the next three months ahead of the mid-point events in March, when students will present their plans for their social action projects to a Dragons’ Den.
The programme will finish with an event in London on 2 July to celebrate the students’ achievements.
AQA’s Executive Director of People, Isabelle Perrett, said:
"I'm so proud of AQA's sponsorship of the AQA Unlocking Potential programme, and was delighted to attend the launch event in our Milton Keynes office.
"It was so good to meet the next cohort of young people starting on this exciting adventure, and knowing what a hugely positive impact it will have on them."
