Shaping the future of maths education
Our recent Maths Education Roundtable brought together voices from across the sector, including university professors of education and founders of well‑established maths education organisations. The group explored how the Curriculum and Assessment Review process could support improvement in maths education across the country.
What was discussed?
During the discussions, some participants raised concerns that the current system can “favour grades over understanding and confidence”. Others questioned whether “GCSE maths provides a valid assessment for students working at Grade 4”. What came through strongly was the shared commitment to ensuring that maths education works for every learner.
This event was an important starting point. We are now continuing these conversations with multi-academy trust leaders, heads of maths and teachers to help shape our thinking and contribute to the wider call for curriculum and assessment reform.
If you would like to join our next event and be part of the conversation, please get in touch with Nicola Woodford-Smith at Maths@aqa.org.uk.
