How moderation works

How moderation works

An explanation of how adjustments to marks are made

The document below explains how we ensure the standard of marking in schools and colleges is consistent. It is written for people who have a reasonable understanding of the exam system and the terminology used.

Feedback forms

On results days schools and colleges will receive feedback forms for all centre assessed components. They are collated into a single document and sent by email to the schools administrative email address.

Feedback forms are not provided for GCSE English Spoken Language (8700/C).

Returning physical samples to schools

Please note, once NEA evidence has been removed from secure storage - including returning to learners - requests for reviews of moderation cannot be made.

UK schools will normally receive their hard copy NEA back in time for results day.

Overseas schools and colleges can request the return of students’ NEA work after the post-results services deadline for the exam series. Requests must be received within six months of students getting their results, and a fee may be charged for this service. Please contact moderation@aqa.org.uk

We recommend that you keep a copy of your students’ work to support future teaching and assessment.
