Sample size and range

The maximum sample size is 30, with a minimum of 10 students at each of the following grades: Distinction (D), Merit (M) and Pass (P). Don’t include Not Classified (NC) or Carry Forward (F) students.

Where more than one teacher/assessor has been involved in marking the work, the sample must cover a range of assessors.

30 students or fewer

If you have 30 students or fewer (excluding Not Classified and Carry Forward) you should submitall of your students’ presentations.

For example, if you submit a total of 28 grades made up of 13 Distinction, 12 Merit and 3 Pass grades, you would include all of these grades in your sample for moderation.

Fewer than 10 students at Distinction, Merit or Pass grade

If you have fewer than 10 students with a Distinction, Merit, or Pass grade, submit all the recordings you have at that particular grade. Include additional recordings at a different grade to make the total sample up to 30 students.

Examples

  • If you submit a total of 83 grades made up of 1 Pass grade and 82 Merit grades, you would include the single Pass grade and 29 Merit grades in your sample.
  • If you submit 127 Distinction grades, 115 Merit grades, and no Pass grades, you would include between 10 and 20 Distinction grades and between 10 and 20 Merit grades in your sample. The numbers of each are up to you, as long as you include a minimum of 10 recordings at each grade, and the total sample adds up to 30.

Parental interest

This status is used to indicate that a candidate’s work has been assessed by a teacher/assessor who has a personal interest in the candidate. If you've assigned any of your candidates a 'parental interest' status on Centre Marks Submission, then you must send their work in addition to the sample above.

10 students or fewer for a level

Fewer than 10 students at Pass for a level

If you have fewer than 10 students with a Pass grade for a level, submit all the Pass recordings you have and include additional Fail recordings to make the total sample up to 10 students.

Examples

  • If you submit a total of 20 grades for Level 1, made up of 18 Pass grades and 2 Fail grades, you would include 10 Pass recordings in your Level 1 sample.
  • If you submit a total of 7 grades for Level 1, made up of 3 Pass grades and 4 Fail grades, you would include all 7 recordings in your Level 1 sample.
  • If you submit a total of 13 grades for Level 1, made up of 7 Pass grades and 6 Fail grades, you would include 7 Pass and 3 Fail recordings in your Level 1 sample.
