SENSORY SOIL EXPLORATION

Level: Pre-Entry Level

In successfully completing this unit, the learner will haveEvidence needed

demonstrated the ability to

1. identify at least three components of soil, eg rocks, sand, clay, organic matter

2. describe at least three of the layers of soil, eg topsoil, subsoil, bedrock in simple terms, recognising that they look different

3. explain one reason why soil is important in archaeology and/or palaeontology

4. create a sensory art project representing the layers of soil, using materials with different textures to mimic each layer.
