USING MOSAICS TO ADD AN EXTRA DIMENSION TO A PLAIN SURFACE

In successfully completing this unit, the learner will haveEvidence needed

demonstrated the ability to

1. draw a design for a mosaic on a piece of paper

2. select, from a given range, the desired colours of tiles to be used in the design

3. prepare the tiles ready for use

4. select, from a given range, any embellishments to be used in the design, eg glass nuggets, beads, shells

5. lay the tiles and any embellishments to be used out in the required design

6. apply tile cement to the underside of the tiles

7. follow the design and lay the tiles in position on the surface of the item to be used

8. continue working the tiles and any embellishments until the design is complete

9. leave the finished design to dry

10. smooth grout over the design to fill in gaps between the tiles and embellishments

11. clean up the grout with a damp sponge and allow to dry

12. polish the finished surface of the design
