Information for examiners and moderators
These pages are an introduction to the examining and moderating process.
e-Marker 2
e-Marker 2 is software used for marking on-screen. After downloading the software you can access it from your Windows PC, where it requires an internet connection to function. Unlike CMI+, marking is done by whole scripts. You will be able to input marks and annotations or indicate that a question was not attempted. Training materials are available on the Associate Extranet and e-learning modules on My Learning Space.
Prior to the day of the exam you will receive guidance on how to set your password for e-Marker 2 and a link to download the software. Please do this in advance of the marking window so we can help you resolve any installation issues and avoid delays to standardisation and marking
After the exam day, scripts will be made available in e-Marker 2 for you to familiarise yourself with the current question papers and mark scheme. The question paper and mark scheme will be available via the Associate Extranet.
Standardisation will take place in e-Marker 2 or at a remote meeting, as detailed on your offer of appointment. Once you have successfully completed standardisation you will be able to start marking scripts in e-Marker 2.
The standard of your marking on each question is checked by ‘seeding’ and supervision from your team leader. Seeding involves you submitting marks for a script that has already been marked by the lead examiner. Once you have submitted you will be able to compare your marks with those of the lead examiner to highlight if you may be outside of the agreed standard. In some cases where this standard varies consistently or by large amounts you may be paused from marking pending a review discussion with your team leader.
As you mark, you will be submitting your scripts in batches, all of which will be available for both yourself and your team leader for review. As a result, your team leader may also pause and feed-back on your performance during marking to help us achieve the right results for our candidates.
