GCSE History Historic Environment sites for exams 2019-2021

The specified historic sites for 2019-2021 exams are covered in the historic environment element of the British Depth Studies. We’re working with the sites to create resource packs for you to use in the classroom, so there’s no requirement to visit the sites.

2019 exams

  • Norman England, c1066–c1100: Pevensey Castle
  • Medieval England, the reign of Edward I,1272–1307: Caernarfon Castle
  • Elizabethan England, c1568–1603: The Globe Theatre
  • Restoration England, 1660–1685: Ham House

2020 exams

  • Norman England, c1066–c1100: The Battle of Hastings, October 1066
  • Medieval England, the reign of Edward I, 1272–1307: The Battle of Stirling Bridge, September 1297
  • Elizabethan England, c1568–1603: The defeat of the Spanish Armada in the English Channel, July/August 1588
  • Restoration England, 1660–1685: The Dutch raid on the Medway, June 1667

The resource packs for the 2020 sites will be available on e-AQA from late autumn term 2018.

2021 exams

  • Norman England, c1066–c1100: The White Tower, London
  • Medieval England, the reign of Edward I,1272–1307: Acton Burnell Castle, Shropshire
  • Elizabethan England, c1568–1603: Kenilworth Castle, Warwickshire
  • Restoration England, 1660–1685: St Paul’s Cathedral, London
