Getting ready for results

Your AQA timetabled exams have now finished and it’s time to start preparing for the release of results.

The restricted results release dates for Summer 2026 are Wednesday 12 August for A Level results and Wednesday19 August for GCSE results. Centres use these days to prepare results for learners and also prepare data and reports for staff before the official results days of Thursday 13 August and Thursday 20 August.

Results, data and reports can only be shared with learners and centre staff on the official results dates and not on the restricted results release dates. Only Exams Office staff and your Head of Centre should have access to results on the restricted results dates.

If your learners have not already been told how and when they will receive their results, you will need to let them know. Will the results be emailed or posted, or both? Can they be collected in person? If so, at what time and where from? You will also need to provide your learners with details of the post-results services available to them, like Access to Scripts and Reviews of Marking. Our next email to you is about post results services.

Make sure that all learner information held in your Management Information System (MIS), such as name changes, tier of entry etc, is up to date and matches the information you have sent to exam boards. This helps prevent errors when you receive your results files.

During the summer break, exam boards may need to contact your centre with urgent queries that need to be resolved before results can be issued. You and your Head of Centre need to decide who will be the point of contact for this. It can be multiple people to take into account holidays etc.

There will be various tasks that need to be completed in your MIS before you import your results files. Your MIS provider will be able to provide you with details of these, in a how-to/training document or training session.

As well as setting up your MIS so that it is ready to receive results, you also need to think about running checks of your A2C system to make sure it is still connected to the exam boards you use so that you can receive files from them. It’s also good to make sure your IT support is aware of when results days are and that they do not have any maintenance work scheduled for systems that could affect the results.

As you know, results are released to centres the day before they can be shared with learners and staff, so you will likely need to set a results embargo in your MIS that restricts viewing results to the Head of Centre and Exams Office staff on the day of the restricted results release.

Have a look at our results webpages for more useful information.

Post Results

You’ve nearly reached the end of the academic year, and you’ll receive your learners' results in August.

After results are given to your learners, you can then submit requests for post-results services. Post-results services cover clerical re-checks, reviews of marking, reviews of moderation, access to scripts, and appeals.

  • Clerical re-check - makes sure that all parts of a script have been marked, and the totalling and recording of marks has been done correctly.
  • Review of marking - reviews the original marking to ensure that the mark scheme has been applied correctly. A priority review of marking should be requested when a university place is involved.
  • Review of moderation - checks the original moderation to ensure that the assessment criteria has been fairly, reliably, and consistently applied.
  • Access to scripts - allows students to request their original marked scripts, or a priority copy of a marked script. Original scripts are usually requested to support teaching and learning, while a priority copy of a script can be requested to help decide whether to request a review of marking or a clerical re-check. The priority script service is usually used if a university place is involved.
  • Appeals process – this can be used to appeal an exam or non-exam assessment (NEA) result after the outcome of a review of marking or review of moderation. It can also be used to appeal malpractice decisions, access arrangement decisions and special consideration decisions.

The outcome of a clerical re-check or review of marking, could be that a student’s marks or grade stay the same, go up, or go down. It’s very important that students understand this, and that you have a system in place to get their consent before submitting a request for a clerical re-check or review of marking. You cannot get consent before results are published; it must be done on a case-by-case basis after results are issued. The JCQ Post-Results Services guide. has useful information about all the post-results services available, as well as templates of candidate consent forms that you can use. Students must give their written consent before a centre can request their script(s).

Visit our webpages about post-results services for more information, including fees, what the deadlines are, turnaround times and how to apply.

We also offer training webinars for results and post-results in June and early July, you can sign up for these here:
