A-level Philosophy digital exams pilot: Centre staff perspectives

By Alina Husain

Abstract

This report presents centre staff perspectives from a digital exams pilot in A‑level Philosophy conducted between March and July 2025. Drawing on survey feedback from exams officers, IT leads and invigilators across participating centres, the report examines the practical and operational aspects of delivering a digital test. Centre staff were generally positive about the experience and valued the support provided, particularly customer support during live delivery. However, the findings highlight challenges related to technical setup, infrastructure, preparation timelines and staff training, especially when considering delivery at scale. Differences in IT environments, device availability and invigilator confidence were identified as key factors shaping readiness. The report identifies considerations relevant to digital exams more broadly, particularly around operational planning, guidance and support needed to ensure consistent and accessible delivery across centres.
