GCSE Physical Education: specification updates for summer 2027

We have made a small but important update to our GCSE Physical Education (8582) specification that will apply to current Year 10 students and all exams from summer 2027 onwards.

So that our GCSE PE specification is aligned with national governing body guidance, the following change has been made to the scheme of assessment.

Athletics activity:

• From summer 2027, both boys and girls can now be assessed in 300 m and 300 m hurdles.

Whilst the change by England Athletics does not come into effect until 1 April 2026, we are mindful that Athletics is a seasonal sport, taught in the summer term, of which there is only one during the GCSE course. We have made these updates now to help with your planning.
