Course summary

Dr Sam Rankin has worked in the NHS for the past 12 years. She is a clinical psychologist with a background in older adult care and for the past five years she has been working in physical health setting with patients who have chronic pain. In her work she makes use of cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and compassion focussed therapy models and techniques. Sam also lectures on the undergraduate psychology course at the University of York, providing students with insights into clinical psychology and applications of cognitive behavioural therapy.

Whilst cognitive behavioural therapy works for some individuals experiencing depression, it does not work for everyone. This masterclass will take you through approaches to depression through the lens of third wave therapies such as acceptance and commitment therapy and compassion focussed therapy.

The session will cover the differences in approach from a theoretical basis, and information on the current evidence base, as well as providing some worked case examples.
