Assessment reform requires many skills and disciplines to deliver an elevated assessment experience for learners and teachers across the UK.
We have a wide variety of roles. Many are a great fit for those with experience in teaching, education regulation, education publishing, commercial, vocational education, and education technology.
Are you a teacher looking for your next step?
Although not all of our reform roles require teaching experience, if you are a teacher then a role at AQA means you can:
Here’s an overview of some of our full-time roles. Expand to learn more about each role type.
You’ll help design accredited qualifications that work for teachers and learners. Qualification development teams manage the journey from concept through to Ofqual accreditation, ensuring every qualification meets regulatory requirements and market needs. You will work with subject experts to create content and guide submissions through accreditation processes. It’s about balancing policy, regulation and real-world classroom insight.
You’ll help shape what assessment looks like in practice. Our Product team uses teachers’ insight and data analysis to shape qualifications. You’ll focus on either specific subjects or a diverse portfolio, translating teacher, learner and market needs into strategy and delivery. You’ll ensure our products are relevant, inclusive and impactful.
You’ll be at the heart of how assessment reform becomes a reality for schools and colleges. Our teams work with subject matter experts and teachers to ensure AQA are providing the best products and services to fit the needs of centres and learners. These roles focus on operational excellence, subject expertise and supporting educators through change.
You’ll help ensure assessment is consistent, inclusive and high-quality. Our Assessment teams develop and uphold design principles and provide governance, oversight and expert guidance across specifications. You’ll support the design and continuous improvement of assessments, from general qualification reform to digital assessments.
You’ll play a key role in shaping the future of vocational education and training. We’re enhancing our vocational qualifications offer to broaden future learners’ options. Roles in this space will include shaping early policy and building business cases through to the delivery of qualifications that meet real employer and learner needs. You’ll be innovating to make a real difference in technical education.

With roles across the business, from product development to account management, you’ll be joining a charity with education and people at its heart.

AQA have offices in Manchester, Guildford, Milton Keynes and London. Most roles are hybrid with two days in the office, although some require more time in the office and some are remote. Each role is different. Check out our job adverts to find out where specific roles are based.
You can expect a package that supports your work and your life. You will be working for the UK’s leading exam board with the opportunity to play your part in bettering education nationally. In permanent and FTC roles, you can expect:
Salaries are set by role and level. They’re benchmarked against external roles to be fair and transparent, with clear progression where possible. You’ll know what to expect before you apply, and you’ll have regular reviews once you’re in post.
If you’re moving from teaching, it’s worth comparing the full package and not just the base salary.
Don’t worry – you won’t be left to figure it out on your own. We have a structured onboarding programme to help you settle in. You’ll learn about assessment, the role and how your work fits in.
For those moving from teaching into new roles, there is training available to upskill you in the new practices. You’ll build your skills over time, with support from your team and opportunities to keep learning. You bring the teaching experience and we’ll help you apply it in a new setting.
Yes we do. Most of our roles offer a mix of home and office working, but it does depend on the role. Generally, we would ask you to work two days a week in the office. This means you can focus at home when you need to and be together when it matters. Each team agrees what works best for them. It is about balance and making work work for you.
While assessment reform will shape our organisation for years to come, AQA is committed to continuously evolving to better serve learners and teachers. We’re looking for individuals who want to be part of that journey, helping to drive improvement, innovation and positive change across the organisation. We value the skills, experience and perspectives our colleagues bring, and we will continue to offer opportunities for people to grow and contribute to AQA’s future. Approximately 50% of all our hires are made internally, supporting retention, engagement and workforce agility.
