In successfully completing this unit, the learner will have	Evidence needed
shown knowledge of 1. the fact that the gradient function dy/dx gives the gradient of the curve and measures the rate of change of y with respect to x	Summary sheet and/or student completed work
2. the fact that the gradient of a function is the gradient of the tangent at that point	Summary sheet and/or student completed work
demonstrated the ability to 3. differentiate expressions of kxⁿ and the sum of such functions including expressions which need to be simplified first, eg given given y = (3x +2) (x – 3), work out dy/dx	Summary sheet and/or student completed work
4. establish the equation of a tangent and normal at any point of a curve on at least two occasions	Summary sheet and/or student completed work
5. recognise increasing and decreasing functions.	Summary sheet and/or student completed work
