Art and design: Summer sensory landscape

In successfully completing this unit, the learner will haveEvidence needed

demonstrated the ability to

1. make a sensory landscape based on the themes of 'summer' and 'beach'

2. name and describe the chosen materials based on their sensory properties, eg granular sand, weathered driftwood, smooth sea glass, fibrous jute and explain why these specific textures evoke the beach

3. experiment with 'found object' art on at least one occasion, identifying how non-traditional materials, eg twine, shells, dried seaweed can be repurposed to represent human features and landscape elements

4. balance high and low reliefs, demonstrating how to build 3D depth using the chosen materials so that the artwork has a physical presence that invites touch

5. evaluate the sensory narrative of their work, explaining how the contrast between rough and smooth materials mimics the physical experience of being at the seaside.
