Leonardo da Vinci: The geometry of proportion

In successfully completing this unit, the learner will haveEvidence needed

demonstrated the ability to

1. research Leonardo’s theory of visual rays and the camera obscura to then apply the properties of similar triangles to calculate the height or distance of unreachable objects

2. construct a complex Leonardo knot, ie interlacing circles, using a compass and protractor to ensure perfect rotational symmetry and equal arc lengths

3. evaluate the symmetry and proportionally of the Vitruvian Man, eg where the centre is using the Pythagorean theorem.
